Visual and Other Pleasures

“Soliloquy makes me into a monster: one huge tongue.”
               —Roland Barthes, A Lover’s Discourse

Sometimes when I watch a movie
I get all Marilyn Mintered about it
which is to say
I get all glossy and post-coital about the mouth for it

Maybe I start to slobber
Like when I watch Margit

I experience this inside me
bold, gelatinously

Every woman becomes a verb

Or, an inverted billboard
Swallowing the signs only to spit them back up

It’s like echinoderm pornography

Too DADA to do anything with
But nevertheless, I enjoy it

It’s like when I read Laura Mulvey, but I start to hear George Kuchar inside my mind, my mind that is like a margarita today (slushy). He exclaims,

“THE MYSTICISM OF THE STAINED GLASS WINDOW

AND THE PROFANITY OF THAT BRASSIERE DO NOT GO WELL TOGETHER!”

I completely understand him. I get it.

The structure of specularity swallows me entirely

It sutures me to the something real

Until someone interrupts. It’s a she. She says, “This is sick and horny.”

Yeah, so? Oh, whatever.

I have to be blasé or else it’ll contaminate me
